Project Examples

Developing a collaborative architecture for a DOE affiliated enterprise requiring Membership Process

Utilizing CRM Dynamics, SharePoint Online and ADX Studio to develop a membership portal for an enterprise affiliated with DOE. The requirements are to provide a vehicle to move Member entities in ‘prospective’ stage to a fully executed and approved stage. Utilizing CRM and SharePoint workflow along with ADX Studio to provide member contacts a Member Portal collaborate experience.


Utilizing Power BI and SSAS Tabular Models to provide Information Delivery Method for an Agriculture Audit Company

Transformed and organized tobacco farm audit data within a SSAS Tabular to delivery reports, charts, and raw data from a ‘Direct Connect’ Power BI Desktop file. Configured the tabular model utilizing SSDT Visual Studio, then ‘direct’ connected to the tabular from Power BI Desktop, then published to Power BI.


Office 365 Solution for multi-office Law Firm

An Intellectual Property Law Firm required a cloud-based globally accessible solution to securely store, search and share with clients. I architected and developed the application and migrated all on-premises documents to the cloud and trained users on how to efficiently access and share information utilizing OneDrive.


SharePoint 2013 Migration for Venture Capitalist Firm
Contracted by Dell to migrate a Venture Capitalist Firm, who funded Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. With over 62K documents that were highly critical to daily operation, it was essential for the documents to be restored, indexed and searchable.


Designed, Developed, Implemented, and Migrated a CRM Application for an EHR Company
Lead designer and developer for CRM application for EHR Company with 423 customers nationwide. The EHR company utilized Oracle as their means to input, track, and resolve help desk tickets, approximately 200 per day. I proposed and implemented a cloud-based system that replaced the Oracle system saving the EHR company approximately 40K per year in licensing costs.


Designed and Developed collaboration portal for EHR Company
Built a globally accessible collaboration portal for EHR Company. Portal is designed to provide:

  • EHR Company with a presentation environment to receive company news and alerts

  • Landing page from which to launch Enterprises Systems, such as CRM app, email, calendaring, and news.

  • Document Management system with metadata tagging

  • Enterprise Search app that allows for tag-driven searches

  • Company branded look and feel


Business Intelligence (BI) Dashboard Project - SharePoint 2013/SQL Server 2012 SP1

Working with nation’s largest outdoor recreation merchandise retailer to build PowerView Reports displaying in PowerPivot gallery dashboards. The Project scope included the following:

1. Building the SQL Server Analysis Tabular instance

2. Restoring PowerPivot Data Models and processing the Tabular Data Model

3. Filtering data using DAX Filters (great feature that secures data at SQL level instead of SharePoint Presentation layer)

4. Implementing PowerPivot Service Application and SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application on the SharePoint App Server

5. Created the .bism (Business Intelligence Semantic Model) connection file in the PowerPivot Dashboard Gallery

6. Worked with customer to create PowerView Reports from the .bism connection file

Kerberos Authentication Implementation

Implemented Kerberos Authentication in SharePoint 2013 environment for large retailer. The retailer security and compliance team required Kerberos Authentication; however, the Kerberos Delegation for the Service Accounts running SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Instance and Reporting Services Service Application were not configured. Our team implemented delegation for the necessary accounts, which enabled the services applications to impersonate the user's identity to the data source, which in this case was a SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Instance.


Business Intelligence (BI) Solution Build Book – SharePoint 2013/SQL 2012 SP1

Creating a SharePoint BI Solution 'build book' for a Healthcare Consulting Firm. I was tasked to create a document that provides detailed instructions on how to install each piece of the firm’s BI solution. The documentation included:

1. An automated installation of SharePoint 2013 utilizing AutoSPInstaller (PowerShell scripts)

2. A detailed procedure to install SQL Server Analysis Server Instance

3. A detailed procedure to install SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application and PowerPivot Service Application

4. A procedure on how to implement the customized SharePoint BI Branding


Discovery, Planning, and Implementation Project

Large Utility and Power Distributor in Knoxville. Personally conducted 20 Discovery sessions with all major departmental business analysts. Produced from the Discovery sessions a list of 72 immediately impactful SharePoint 2013 solutions that enhance collaboration efficiency. Created a SharePoint 2013 installation and configuration plan that best matched the needs of the company. Created a Disaster Recovery and High Availability Plan for the SharePoint 2013 Farm.


SQL Server 2008 to 2012 Migration (SharePoint SQL Database Engine Migration)

Restaurant conglomerate had need to migrate its SharePoint 2010 Database Engine from SQL 2008 to SQL 2012. The company did not need to upgrade SharePoint 2010, but just needed to upgrade the SQL version due to data center upgrade demands. I installed a new SharePoint 2010 Farm on the new SQL 2012 instance, then restored the SQL 2008 databases to the new SharePoint 2010 farm.


Real Estate/Land Management Application

Developed SharePoint 2013 Web Application for agents at Land Management Company to search for  prospective, current, and past customers. Application included workflows to move dead leads, reset current lead owner, and alert agent managers of call frequencies.


Online Application for Construction Company

Built a globally accessible SharePoint Online Portal for Construction Company. The company needed an externally accessible collaboration environment to interface with architects, subcontractors, and clients. I built a SharePoint Online site collection to allow for subcontractors to download and bid on jobs, architects to upload drawings, and clients to track work progress.


Collaboration Portal Implementation/Migration for Large Regional Bank in Minnesota

Created AutoSPInstaller plan to install and configure SharePoint 2013. Assisted with migration of content from SharePoint 2010 and assisted with creation of a People Directory application.


Portal Implementation – HIPAA Compliant

Implementation of SharePoint 2013 for Healthcare Provider in Omaha, NE. Worked closely with compliance and security officers to conform SharePoint to meet HIPAA Compliance.


Globally accessible data collection solution – IPAD compatible (5 month project)

Consulting work with DNDO (Domestic Nuclear Detection Office) and CBP (Customs & Border Patrol) to create and secure globally accessible SharePoint infrastructure, which provides a platform to record and report on data entered through web-enabled InfoPath forms. Users utilized IPADs to enter and display information.


SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 Migration Assessment (8 month project)

Consulting with Department of Energy facility in Oak Ridge, TN. My role was to assess current

SharePoint 2007 environment and provide a ‘proven’ migration strategy to SharePoint 2010. 


Office 365 Migrations

Managed 18 migrations from on-premises Exchange/SharePoint environments to Microsoft Office 365 Cloud-based Infrastructure.


City of Knoxville SharePoint Migration

Reviewed City of Knoxville’s Portal Server 2003 environment before migration to SharePoint 2010. Identified hardware, operating system versions, and server versions. During the characterization of their environment, I created an issues list document that identified problems they would experience during the migration. Executed the migration and remediated any post-migration issues.


InfoPath Form Application
Assisted Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) with creation of a ‘Field Work Proposal (FWP)’ application. ORAU submits FWPs yearly to attain funding for various projects. The FWPs were originally manually submitted using Word documents. I created an InfoPath form to collect all necessary information and route to the correct department.


SharePoint 2010 Branding Project

Project Manager and Developer in SharePoint 2010 Branding Project for large Bank located in Oak Ridge, TN (responsible for managing a development team to implement a Branding Solution based on a mock-up design up by their Marketing Department’s graphic artists. 


SharePoint 2010 Planning, Implementation, and Training (10 month project)

SharePoint 2010 Implementation for Energy Company based out of Chicago, IL (architected and implemented SharePoint environment using Powershell scripts, configured Enterprise Search, User Profiles Synchronization, MySite Web App, and Branded the Intranet Portal). I was responsible for directing and performing the migration of gigabytes of content stored in Portal Server 2003 to SharePoint 2010. Also during this project, I was the senior trainer for 40 site admins and 160 site contributors (customized curriculum using Velsoft and delivered 4 site admin sessions and 16 contributor sessions over an 8 week period in 5 cities).

SharePoint 2010 Implementation and Migration

SharePoint 2010 Migration for large Bank located in Oak Ridge, TN. Managed migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010. I primarily used the content database backup/restore method with stsadm.exe and powershell scripts) 


SharePoint 2007 Implementation

Implemented Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) at the Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center. Planned the server configuration and directed the installation and configuration of MOSS, integrating it with the existing Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 servers. Planned and executed the migration of documents and digital photography from shared folders to MOSS document and picture libraries. Designed and implemented forms using Microsoft InfoPath 2007 for collecting professional profile information, accident reporting and asset tagging. Developed a custom workflow to set permissions on submitted forms to meet security requirements. 


SharePoint 2007/WSS 3.0 Implementations

Upgraded approximately 12 SMBs from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to 3.0. Trained clients on how to do similar features with the new interface as well as pointed out new features. 


Configuration of Microsoft Office Project Server and SharePoint 2007

Worked with Pilot Corporation to install Microsoft Office Project Server, which uses SharePoint for Project Web Access. Configured according to Pilot’s requirements and assisted in instructing Pilot’s IT Department on how to use and maintain Project 2003, Project Web Access, and Project Server. 


SharePoint 2007 Document Management Application

Installed SharePoint Services for American Technologies Incorporated, which used SharePoint as a secure replacement for their FTP communication with the Army Corps of Engineers. 


Help Desk and Medical Dictation App Creation

Created a SharePoint Help Desk implementation for a SMB which needed the ability to assign Service Requests and monitor the status of the Service Request Tasks. Created a SharePoint solution for a SMB that needed the ability to securely upload Medical and Legal dictations to a site where alerts would direct transcriptionists to respond and transcribe the dictations. 


SharePoint 2007/WSS 3.0 Document Management Solutions

Transitioned 6 SMB’s document storage procedures from using Windows file shares to using SharePoint Services 3.0. Along with the implementation, I also trained users on how to use the many features that come with SharePoint, such as versioning, mail-enabled document libraries, check-out feature, alerts, Outlook integration, search capability, and custom lists created from Excel. 

SharePoint 2007/WSS 3.0 PDF Search Application

Installed SharePoint Services 3.0 for an SMB who needed the ability to search PDF content. I installed and configured the PDF ifilter that allows for the content of the PDF file to be indexed and searchable.
